Preheat oven to 350 F. Butter a 13-by-9 inch cake pan then line it with parchment paper, allowing the parchment to hang over on both sides (this will make it easier to remove the cake from the pan).
Cream butter, sugar and vanilla. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each egg.
Sift the dry ingredients together and add to mixture alternatively with the milk. Beat well. Pour into the pan.
Beginning in the top left corner, place two rows of three blueberries. Next, using the sliced strawberries, very lightly press the strawberry strips into the cake to make the "stripes). Make three flags in the first column and then two more columns of three flags.
Bake for 30-35 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool in pan. Once cooled, gently pull up on the sides to lift the cake out of the pan. Slice in individual flag shapes and enjoy!
