Why We Love This Recipe
- The cookie dough is made with cocoa powder, filled with chocolate chips and topped with dark chocolate chunks! They’re super fudgy and chocolatey just like these chocolate chip and orange cookies.
- Gooey marshmallows and sweet chocolate taste so good together like in our rice krispy treats with chocolate chips!
- They’re a fun twist on two classics: chocolate chip cookies and s’mores!
- You probably have most of the ingredients and you can make these easy smores cookies in just an hour!
Ingredients

Below are notes about some of the ingredients for this chocolate smores cookie recipe.
- Mini marshmallows: Mini marshmallows make these gooey and sweet. If you love biting into gooey marshmallows, try my cornflake chocolate chip marshmallow cookies and peanut butter and marshmallow cookies!
- Brown sugar and granulated sugar: Use either light or dark brown sugar. Brown sugar is essential for chewy smores cookies! Granulated sugar sweetens the cookies and also gives them structure.
- Cocoa powder: I recommend natural unsweetened cocoa powder. Be sure to also try our rich and chocolatey chocolate strawberry brownies!
- Eggs: Use 2 large eggs. Take the eggs out of the refrigerator before starting the recipe so they are room temperature.
- Butter: I use unsalted butter. The butter should be room temperature.
- Chocolate chips: Use regular semi-sweet chocolate chips. You can also use them to make chocolate chip cookies with pistachios and chocolate chip and pecan cookies.
- Dark chocolate: I love topping these cookies with chunks of Lindt 70% dark chocolate. It gives you melty chocolate pools and deep chocolate flavor.
Please see recipe card below for full list of ingredients and their measurements.
Substitutions & Variations
- Instead of chocolate chips, use mini chocolate chips, chocolate chunks or chopped chocolate.
- Swap in dark, milk or even white chocolate in place of semi-sweet chocolate.
- I like to top my cookies with dark chocolate. For more of a classic smores flavor, top cookies with chopped Hershey bars!
- Top these chocolate chip smores cookies with regular sized marshmallows in place of mini marshmallows! I recommend cutting them in half or in quarters.
- If you can’t find graham crackers, use Lotus Biscoff cookies or plain digestive biscuits.

Expert Tips
Tip # 1: Scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl with a spatula while making the dough. This will make sure the ingredients are well combined.
Tip #2: Press the graham cracker crumbs on the tops as well as the sides of the cookie dough balls. You can also sprinkle the crumbs in the cookie scoop before scooping each cookie.
Tip #3: Add the marshmallows at the end. If you mix the marshmallows into the dough with the chocolate chips, they will dissolve. It’s best to add them as directed in the instructions.
